Kaan Koray & Eray - Rise Of Darkness

"Rise Of Darkness" somewhere deep down below, rousing synths rise and rise, a man splutters out the odd mangled word and before you know it you're spinning round and round in some beguiling progressive house fusion. The duo Kaan Koray & Eray tryed a tiny bits of sound looped until their bled edges resemble something new entirely, more often than not, pathos is involved, was a meaning to recognize and better than the way they started to capture their own style.

Stanisha remix is pretty much a massive curveball, with icy chord stabs and celestial xylophone sounds backing a chopped and mashed "...that's my home." It's oddly hymnal and churchy thanks to a vast and chilly echo. Franzis-D steps up first and marries insomniac-style steel drums, squelchy, rubbery splats and plenty of wiggling dancehall energy into something fittingly describe as "Rise Of Darkness". As the whole arrangement sways up and down, background harmonies take over and act as a progressive solvent into which everything else slowly dissolves, before the trip is completed it's a sub-heavy dub skank that leaves you feeling slightly stoned despite not having had a single toke.

Delivered by a storm cloud of stabbing bass synths and featuring a brief but wildly frantic breakdown. Orelse remix is more deep, mid-tempo cosmic house moodiness, with a percussive snap, crackle and pop style synth refrain. It's perhaps not a package that offers something for those who prefer things a bit brasher and ballsier, but will excite those susceptible to a bit of aural ear-nibbling.

Erdi Irmak version is little divergence from the linear path it treads, bar the moment the music cuts and a single drum roll jolts you out of the hypnotising effect that the groove engenders. Hector Sawiak rumbles on a zig-zaggy fuzz bassline that recalls the older, spastic work of "Rise Of Darkness" as much as it does vintage funk but with the digitized coldness of modern instrumental, giving the whole remix a half-baked, nostalgic sound. Dj Duma truly stands out in a flood of generic funkateers. It takes a lot of talent to make crate-digging sound so seamless, and even if the cracks show every once in a while. The last remix from this awesome EP, comes from Zibe, a young assistant sound engineer that developed a passion
to progressive house and delivered a dramatic, dark and melancholic sentimentality vibes slowly unravel the tightly-coiled rhythms into hypnagogic lullabies.

The result is one of the most emotionally powerful synth EP's delivered by Insomniafm Records this year, in a time where they seem absolutely dime a dozen sampladelic approach adds colour rather than clutter, with bits of organ and the wildly jazzy synth solos that gently cuff the grooves are carefully placed and layered.
