Post subject: The most over rated album of the year, sorry! |

I literaly ran out to buy Machine says yes the very day of its release after all its rave reviews. Upon arriving home I ripped the record out of its casing a listened to it 3 times in a row - How dissapointing. The album was bland and uninspiring, yes there are a lot of new ideas on there but nothing that stands out for being superb. Directly afterward I spun 'The incredible sound of Giles Peterson' and realised that FC Kahuna have a long way to go before they can warm the soul with their sound. I am not saying the album is bad, on the contrary it is a fine piece of craftmanship but to say it is over rated is a major understatement.
'Machine says yes' and 'Fear of guitars' will be noted as classics in the years to come but no other tracks off the album grab me enough to really enjoy them. Very few records jump out of the box and disrupt your mixing practice, two major artist albums have so far achieved this in 2002 - The Chems and Timo Mass, FC Kahuna doesn't quite cut it in this league.
That is not to say that the future isn't bright for them, this is a good start into the mainstream and I expect great things from them in the future but for now the album shoud be enjoyed for being good and not for being a masterpiece which it clearly is not. Anything dark and moody is being recieved with over jubilation these days, please don't push it too far. _________________ Nelo <HoW aRe YoU?> |
